VINTAGE ELECTRONIC

This is my senior project which was to create our own brand that fit the theme of the senior show. The theme for the 2021 show was decades. Vintage Electronic is a record label brand that is meant to represent the 90's and 2000's. It takes inspiration from the designs and color palettes of that time period. The brand is about electronic music something that I personally am interested in so it was a lot of fun to create for it. A lot of the designs relate back to the concept of electronic music with bright colors, clean geometric shapes, and simple typography.

THE LOGO

When designing the logo I knew I wanted it to form some type of  basic geometric shape. I tried rectangular shapes first but then moved towards a pyramid shape that could be created with the letters. The logo itself was created by editing the font Reross Quadratic into a pyramid shape. The wordmark is the same font which keeps the look consistent. I knew I wanted the logo to also have different colored versions from the start as well. The color palette of the 90s is similar to colors that you would see in the rave scene of the 90s, early 2000s and today. So I went with a bright pink, orange, blue, and green. The repeated typography for a wordmark was one of the last things I came up with for the overall brand design. This aspect was taken from current design trends.

PROMOTIONAL POSTERS

Like all music label brands eventually you will make a promotional flyer for either a music festival or just the label/brand in general. The music festival flyer on the left uses the pyramid shaped logo on a blue background with the reflection of a blue pyramid on an orange background. This just furthers the use of simple geometric shapes as a part of the brands design. This use of geometric shapes continues as the lines going up above the logo suggest that the logo is part of some kind of prism shape. This lines are also used in the blue pyramid shape. Below that listed as the lineup are electronic music artists from the 90's and early 2000's that I personally enjoy. The flyer to the right is just a flyer to represent the brand itself. The geometric shapes on this take inspiration from minimalist paintings. It shows off the color variants of the logo on the left. The main focal point of the piece is the geometric shapes which suggest that the triangle has been launched into the air.

VINYL RECORD DESIGNS

At the start of the project I also knew I wanted to create either vinyl record or CD covers. At first I wanted to redesign electronic record covers from the 90's and 2000's but instead decided to do my own thing. The idea of having them be seen as collections of music comes from my research on 90's electronic music. A lot of tracks from the 90s from not as popular electronic artists were thrown into records with collections of various songs.
